  40. Pin assignments on a DB-9 serial port are as follows:

  46. 5  Signal Ground
  47. 6  Data Set (Modem) Ready
  48. 7  Request to Send
  49. 8  Clear to Send
  50. 9  Ring Indicator

  52. Your connections above are good as far as they go.  If you want
  53. to use Carrier Detection, it is best to provide the carrier detect
  54. from the other computer's "Data Terminal Ready" signal.  Thus,
  55. pin 1 and 6 should be connected together at one end and through
  56. the cable to pin 4 at the other end, and vice versa.  I.e, with
  57. your indicated connections, just add a jumper from 1 to 6 on each
  58. DB-9.

  64. script since you aren't dialing or sending any "AT" commands.
